Xero for racing stables: what to keep in Xero and what belongs in your stable system
Xero is widely used by New Zealand small businesses, including many stables. It's great at accounting but it doesn't know which horse a feed bill belongs to, or that an owner sold half their share on the 14th.
Keep in Xero
- Bank reconciliation
- Supplier bills and payment runs
- GST returns and your accountant's journals
- Payroll
Keep in your stable system
- Day rates and extras charged to each horse
- Ownership shares and their dates
- Splitting each charge to owners at month end
- Owner statements, updates and history
What a good sync looks like
Comparing MiStable and Ardex, we found the main pain points are manual sync buttons, duplicate contacts and status updates done by hand. A good integration should push invoices automatically when you finalise the month, match contacts rather than create duplicates, and read payments back.
That's the design of Stability's planned Xero sync. It isn't live yet, so ask us about timing.
